Simple Steps to Save the Environment

Humans, like all living creatures, have an impact on the environment. We constantly interact with it with just our existence. Having in mind that we humans are on the top of the food chain we’re the ones who influence the environment the most. Unfortunately, as we conquer new tops and discover more things we systematically abuse and destroy entire ecosystems. If we continue at the present rate we’ll not only run out of resources but also irreversibly damage the planet.

What can we do about it?

Fortunately, things are not so bad and can be fixed by changing a few things in our everyday life. Did you know that your car produces CO2 emissions equal to its weight roughly for 6000 miles? It may not seem like a big deal, but imagine what could happen if once a week no one uses their car. Imagine it for a week or month, although it seems impossible we’re going to be forced to take measures sooner or later. Together, we can make a difference.

Reduce

All of us can contribute to saving the environment by reducing CO2 emissions by using public transport instead of our cars. We can reduce the usage of water in three easy steps – when we brush our teeth most of us keep the water running. These are approximately 2 gallons of drinkable water going to waste in each brush. Conserve your water. The same applies when you’re showering if you don’t use water for the time being turn it off. Using a dishwasher is another way to reduce water usage, but make sure it is full when you turn it on. It isn’t worth turning it on for two dishes and one glass. If you start doing this, you’ll not only save a lot of money but also help save the environment. You can also reduce the usage of electricity around the house by simply turning off the lights every time you leave the room. You should also invest in energy-saving bulbs and unplug all electrical devices if you leave the house for longer periods.

Being energy efficient

Energy efficiency is one of the major ways we can save the environment.  It is hard to see the correlation between electricity and the greenhouse gasses that cause environmental degradation worldwide, but this doesn't mean we should ignore energy efficiency altogether. Electricity is created in several ways, but the most impactful on the environment is through burning fossil fuels such as coal. Therefore we must pay attention to how much electricity we waste. Other than retail, business is one of the biggest culprits for wasting electricity. How can businesses reduce their electricity wastage?
  • Get an energy audit - The first step to making offices more energy-efficient and less wasteful is to get an energy audit company to come in and inspect how much energy they use and offer solutions to avoid waste and over-usage.
  • Create smart offices - By getting smart devices in the office such as self-regulating heating and lighting, offices can end up saving huge amounts of energy that was otherwise wasted without notice.
  • Improve office cabling - One of the biggest causes of inefficiency in the office is uncontrolled cabling. A lack of organisation in office cabling can cause cable defects that damage connectivity and lose efficiency, hence wasting all the electricity that is used to run these networks. By investing in smart office cabling, businesses can improve their efficiency as well as massively reduce the amount of electricity wastage.

Chemicals We Use

We’re surrounded with products containing different amounts of chemicals. The most concentrated amounts are found in cleaning solvents. Their molecules can turn into dangerous compounds once they come in contact with sources of dirt. VOC (volatile organic compound) is then released into the air. This affects your health and contaminates the water which you throw away. With all of these dangerous chemicals, you may think you are cleaning; however, you are contributing to the pollution in the environment. Unfortunately, some of those residues can’t be eliminated in the waste-water treatment plants and remain in the environment where it builds up. You can easily avoid the usage of those products. A way to avoid the number of dangerous chemicals are released into the environment is to use 'green cleaning products' at home. At your place of work, make sure your office cleaners are using environmentally friendly products and if not, request that they do or switch your providers. For a cleaning company in Brighton that only uses green cleaning products and methods, we highly recommend Smart Clean Services Ltd who offers office, window and carpet cleaning. Waste Disposal & Recycling

Recycle Your Waste to Help The Environment

At iMeasure, energy conservation isn't the only thing we care about. Everyone knows that recycling waste is a good thing to do for the environment. Did you know that a lot more than just paper and glass can be recycled? Local councils provide recycing services for residents and these vary from region to region. If you produce a lot of waste have you considered using a private recycling service? A professional waste and recycling service will be able to assess your waste and recycle everything it is possible to recycle. Disposing of your waste efficiently is just one thing you can do to have an environmentally-friendly workplace or home. Click here to read more about eco-friendly services. Recycling Services by Kent Rubbish Clearance

Up to 98% of general waste can be recycled or repurposed.

Using a standard waste service means that a large proportion of waste that could be recycled or reused ends up in landfill or in an incinerator. Of course this is not ideal for the environment and can be avoided. Talk to a specialist rubbish removal company. They will be able to sort your waste into recycling, reusable items and then only the remainder will be sent to landfill. If you are based in Kent why not talk to Kent Rubbish Clearance for advice about waste and recycling management and how they can service your needs. You can call them on 0800 138 9100.

Reuse Your Unwanted Items

You may want to get rid of some things which can be reused for example furniture, electronics and materials like carpets. If these items go into your general waste collection they will end up in landfill instead of being reused or recycled. Consider donating items that can be reused. Things like empty ink cartridges can be returned to the manufacturer to be recycled.
